Why ZIP files need review

A ZIP archive can reveal folder names, usernames in paths, hidden operating system artifacts, nested archives, sensitive-looking config filenames, and the metadata of files inside the archive.

What to remove carefully

System files, unsafe paths, .DS_Store-style artifacts, password/config filenames, and accidental backups may be removable. But deleting project files can break a package, so keep a backup and review each item.

After cleanup

Open the cleaned ZIP, confirm the expected files are still present, and scan important files inside the archive with their matching privacy tools.
