What GPS metadata can include

Photos from phones and cameras may include latitude, longitude, altitude, direction, map datum, GPS date, and GPS time. This can reveal a home, office, school, travel location, or private meeting place.

Metadata is not the only location clue

Removing GPS data does not hide visible clues such as street signs, license plates, unique buildings, faces, documents, or reflections. Always review the visible photo content too.

Before posting

Scan the image, remove GPS and other EXIF data, download the cleaned image, and verify it before posting on social media, sending to a client, or adding it to a public website.
